Data collection

Build a defensible picture of a market you do not operate in

Collect comparable data across regions without local infrastructure.

The problem

Understanding a market you are not physically present in means seeing what its participants see. Search results, marketplace listings, review volumes, job postings and ad inventory all change by geography, and none of them are available from a single vantage point.

Teams often work around this with VPNs on analyst laptops. That does not scale, is not reproducible, and produces datasets nobody can audit six months later.

The solution

Proxy infrastructure turns geography into a parameter. The same collection job runs against 40 markets with a country code as the only difference, and every row carries a provenance record of where it was collected from.

Because the exits are residential, the data reflects what a person in that market actually experiences rather than what the site chooses to show foreign infrastructure.

Mechanics

How proxies solve it

1

One job, every market

Parameterise country and city instead of standing up regional infrastructure you then have to maintain.

2

Reproducible provenance

Every response carries the exit country and ASN, so a finding can be re-verified months later.

3

Coverage where cloud regions do not exist

Residential and mobile coverage extends far beyond the handful of countries with major cloud presence.

4

No analyst laptops in the loop

Collection runs in your pipeline on a schedule, not in a browser tab someone forgot to refresh.

Workflow

How we would build it

  1. 1

    Fix your market list

Choose the countries and cities that map to real commercial decisions rather than everywhere you have coverage.

  2. 2

    Standardise the collection unit

Same query, same device profile, same time-of-day window across every market so the comparison holds.

  3. 3

    Record exit metadata

Store the exit country, city and ASN alongside every record — it is the difference between data and anecdote.

  4. 4

    Sample continuously

A single snapshot is a photograph. Weekly sampling over a quarter is a trend.

FAQ

Market research questions

Residential, because consumer-facing content is what you are studying and it is what residential exits return faithfully. Drop to datacenter for anything you have confirmed is served identically to all visitors.
Hold everything constant except geography — same user agent, same accept-language logic relative to locale, same collection window. Any variable you leave floating becomes noise in the comparison.
